Why Skill Development?
Skill development is one of the essential ingredients for India’s future economic growth as the country transforms into a diversified and internationally-competitive economy. India has unique demographic advantage with more than 60% of the population is in young age group.

The shortage of candidates with the right skills has many employers changing their strategies so they can re-skill and up skill workers who are already on board. It also requires organizations to modify their training and development programs to ensure that employees have specific knowledge to fill the gaps.

Govt. of India has taken initiative for Skill development through public private partnership. Current infrastructure of ITI and other Govt. aided institutes are not enough to training people for future job opportunities.

But, the government alone cannot accomplish this task. It calls for a concerted effort of government, private players and NGOs to address the issue in a comprehensive manner. If India is to gain its rightful place in the world, reap equal benefits and opportunities for all and rise from the debris of poverty and several other pressing issues, skills development will require to be given a place right on top of national priorities.

As India strengthens its base as a knowledge economy, there would be additional requirements to the highly skilled workforce in various organised & unorganized sectors. Further, with value added industries being given a policy push under the ‘Skill India” & ‘Make in India’ initiatives, highly skilled workforce would also be required in high-end industries.
